Jupiter have removed the issue that flute musicians often find where they feel too large for a child's flute, but don't yet require an adult's scale. The JFL-510ES model has the innovative curved head which offers the same material length as a 4/4 flute, but keeps the keys considerably closer to the body. The benefit of not being a short scale is that the air stays in a larger barrel area for increased depth and complexity. This means that younger musicians still have the benefit of an exceptional tone.
Once the player has outgrown the wave-line headjoint the transition to a standard flute is easy. You can purchase an extension kit which converts this model to a standard flute so you don't have to buy a completely new instrument.
