The Martin GP-18E features a solid sitka spruce top which produces a versatile sound that is able to accommodate numerous genres and techniques with ease; from lighter fingerpicking styles, to heavier more aggressive strumming patterns. In addition, its stunning sitka spruce top also yields a crisp and articulate tone with a broad dynamic range, and a focused, clear sound of deep lows, warm mid-range, and bright singing highs. Furthermore, the solid top is accompanied by genuine mahogany back and sides, which produce a resonant distinct warmth. Additionally, used as back and side panels, the mahogany delivers a meaty mid-range, producing punchy, woody tones with plenty of depth and complexity that will please most playing styles.
Martin's grand performance body has been constructed to be versatile enough to be able to handle numerous playing styles with ease, specifically built to perform superbly and with the performing musician in mind. With its beautifully articulate tone, superb projection and volume, as well as versatility, players can achieve numerous genres, playing styles, and techniques with equal ease. Its relatively narrow waist gives the GP-18E plenty of balance between the high frequencies and the low frequencies. Additionally, the grand performance body also provides a comfortable playing experience whether the player is seated or standing throughout the performance.
The Martin GP-18E comes equipped with Fishman electronics, making it perfect for the performing musician. In 2016, Martin introduced the sophisticated Aura VT Enhance preamp system, which offers advanced and innovative technology, described as the virtual blender of all pickups. The Aura VT Enhance is able to combine the raw pickup signal with an acoustic image that reveals the true nature and personality of an acoustic guitar. The Aura VT Enhance with acoustic imaging also features a new bridge plate mounted transducer, which adds dimension, resonance, and body to the guitar's overall tone.
With a select hardwood neck and a high performance neck taper, players are certain to adore the Martin's smooth and easy playability. Additionally, the neck's modified low oval shape offers a smooth and comfortable playing experience, ensuring players have a firm, comfortable, and secure grip up and down the neck. Its select hardwood neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard which adds a bright attack, superb sustain, and plenty of bite to the guitar's overall sound. For added elegance and a hint of vintage-inspired creativity, the GP-18E's fingerboard is also sprinkled with abalone old style 18 inlays.
With forward shifted X bracing and a scalloped shape, the guitar's overall structure is reinforced, preventing it from collapsing under string tension. Shifting the braces around, the sound of the guitar can be almost manipulated, allowing for superb projection, and a beautifully crystal clear and powerful sound.
Plek Technology uses a computer-controlled machine that carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string. This innovative Plek Technology then automatically dresses each fret, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. This pioneering process does the same work in a matter of minutes in comparison to how long it takes a luthier to complete the same job which can take up to several hours, sometimes even days to accomplish.
The GP-18E features a real bone nut, which offers excellent resonance and sustain, along with an authentic appearance. A bone nut also delivers a very balanced tone, and will last a long time. In addition, this type of nut naturally self lubricates and helps you stay in tune for longer.
Please note: Martin do not ship their guitars with the strap button installed on the bottom of the guitar. They do this to avoid any impact cracks that may occur during shipping. You can find your strap button inside the case compartment.
