The SG model was originally designed as a variation of the Les Paul to help push sales, offering a much thinner and more comfortable guitar than the Les Paul. This resulted in the SG becoming a staple in rock and metal, since it allowed for faster playing styles. The most notable SG players include Pete Townshend, Angus Young, and Tony Iommi (the godfather of metal). You can’t get more iconic than that.
The SG Special taps into this original design, giving you straight-forward SG performance and style. Beneath its stunning finish lies a strong mahogany body and neck, providing you with that sweet, warm characteristic the classic SG's possessed.
Just like its original design, the SG Special offers an incredibly thin body and neck, letting you deliver those speedy solos and swift slides across the entire fingerboard. You even have comfortable access to the upper frets thanks to the body's twin cutaway design.
The 22 low frets also offer a thin feel, giving you extra comfort when moving across the fingerboard. The frets have also been cryogenically frozen, increasing their durability for a comfortable playing feel that will last you a lifetime.
For that classic rockin' tone, the SG Special is fitted with beautiful sounding P90 pickups. The same vintage single-coils that helped define blues and rock 'n' roll. Despite being only single-coil, the P90 gives you an incredibly fat snarl, with plenty of crunch and bite - like a humbucker.
For extra thickness, the two pickups deliver a bright high-end with plenty of midrange presence. This lets you get those meaty tones for rock or create that blissful crispness for blues. You also get independent volume and tone controls, letting you find the perfect sound for your playing.
The addition of a wraparound bridge, instead of the standard tune-o-matic, removes the need to mess around with intonation. You just focus solely on your playing. This type of bridge also makes string changes quick, since you can remove the bridge to get to the strings easier. The SG also includes vintage deluxe tuners. These not only add to its stunning aesthetic, they also provide incredible tuning stability.
